For a while ManageFC was available in more than thirty languages. That sounds generous. In practice, all but one of them were automatic translations that nobody on the project could read or check, sitting next to the one language — English — that we actually looked after.
On 8 May 2026, the same day we deleted the battle pass, we decided to stop pretending.
The problem with "supported" languages
A football management game is mostly words: match reports, messages from the board, scout reports, press questions, explanations of every attribute. When those words are translated automatically and never reviewed, three things happen:
- Football language breaks. Expressions like a "through ball", a "clean sheet" or a "false nine" rarely survive a literal translation. The result reads like a manual for a different sport.
- Small details break. Sentences that include a number or a name get rearranged, and players end up seeing fragments that make no sense.
- Nobody notices. If no one on the team reads a language, its mistakes stay invisible until a player tells us — and most players don't write in, they simply leave.
What changed
We kept English as the single language of the game and retired the automatic translations, together with the features that existed only to serve them, such as choosing a language automatically from your location. Thousands of translated messages were replaced by the original English versions we maintain.
We also made sure nothing broke along the way: every old link to a page of the game still takes you to the right place.
What it cost
Some players preferred reading in their own language, even imperfectly, and we lost something for them. We do not pretend otherwise. The trade we chose is that every word you read in ManageFC today is a word someone meant to write.
Keeping it clean afterwards
Removing the translations was the easy part; leftovers are harder to spot. In September we reviewed every piece of text in the game, looking for stray foreign words and sentences that no longer matched any screen. We removed several hundred unused texts and fixed the handful of real mistakes the review uncovered — including a morale screen that showed a raw template code instead of the number of weeks. That story is in every word on screen, checked.
Will other languages come back?
Perhaps — but only the right way: one language at a time, reviewed screen by screen by someone who plays the game and reads that language fluently. Until then, English, and a game that says exactly what it means.
