The heart of ManageFC is preparation: you set up the team, and the engine plays the match while you do something else. But every manager knows the feeling of wanting to be on the touchline for the big one. In August 2026 we made that possible.
Eighteen segments
A live match is split into eighteen segments of five minutes. After each segment the match pauses and you can act:
- change your mentality — defensive, balanced or attacking;
- change your playing style;
- make a substitution;
- or simply let it run on to the next segment.
At half-time you get a report with its own team-talk options. Your changes take effect at the start of the next segment and live only inside that match — your saved tactics are never altered behind your back.

The rule that mattered most
From the first sketch we set one rule: live play must never be better than the instant result. If managing a match live gave you an edge, every match would become a chore you felt obliged to sit through — exactly the kind of pressure the whole game is designed to avoid.
So live and instant matches use the same engine with the same random seed. If you do nothing, a live match ends exactly as the instant result would have. What live play gives you is not luck; it is the chance to react — to protect a lead, chase a goal, or take off a tired player before he costs you.
Counting a result exactly once
Making live matches safe was the hardest part of the work. A match can be finished from more than one place: from the live viewer, from a time skip that reaches the match date, or from a second tab someone forgot was open. Whichever path gets there first, the result — points, morale, injuries, finances, inbox messages — must be applied once and only once.
We built live matches so that the first path to finish claims the match and every other path is politely turned away. We tested it the unfriendly way, by firing the final segment twice at the same moment: one request completed the match, the other was refused, and the league table moved by exactly one result.
Checking every request
Every change you send during a live match is checked before it is accepted: the player you bring on has to be on the bench, the style has to be a real style, and you cannot use more substitutions than the rules allow. A request that does not make sense is refused cleanly, and the match carries on unaffected.
How to try it
Open one of your upcoming fixtures on match day and choose to play it live, or take the instant result if you are short of time. The match day guide explains the whole routine, from setting tactics to reading the ratings afterwards.
