A private world raises an obvious question: which world? A save with every league on the planet would take ages to build and even longer to simulate. A save with one league would feel empty. On 20 May 2026 we settled it by letting you build the world yourself.
How a world is put together
Every save starts from a base country. The wizard automatically creates its first three divisions — a complete top of the pyramid — and places your new club in division 3, founded from scratch with an empty trophy cabinet and facilities at the first level. The climb is the game.
Update, 9 October 2026: the wizard now creates all ten divisions of the base country, and new clubs start in division 10.
Around that core you can add up to 37 more leagues, choosing any country and any division from 1 to 10. Want the top flights of five big football nations next to your own pyramid? Four leagues from South America? A lower division of a country you have never managed in? All possible, up to a hard cap of 40 leagues per save.
Everything outside your selection simply does not exist in that world. Countries you did not choose are scenery until a future save includes them.
A cup for champions
The same change introduced a save-wide cup for the previous season's league champions, generated at the end of each season and sized to however many countries your world contains. It worked in our first full test — six champions, eight places, two byes, three rounds — and it was the first version of what became today's continental competitions and MFC Global Cup.
Three bugs that only big steps reveal
To validate the new world, we created a fresh save with a Portuguese pyramid plus five foreign top divisions and played a whole season by skipping time. Three problems appeared that no single-day test would ever have shown:
- Cups stopped advancing. Cup rounds that fell in the middle of a long time skip were not being played — and a season can only end when its cups are finished. Now every cup match due during a skip is played, round after round.
- The season never ended. The end-of-season routine still looked for a leftover from the old shared world, and when it could not find it, it quietly gave up. We removed that dependency.
- The second season would not start. Drawing up the fixtures for season two got stuck on the calendar dates, and for over an hour the stuck process slowed down the whole site. We rewrote how the game works out its dates so it can never happen again.
The lesson about dates
The third bug taught us something we now repeat to ourselves often: dates are harder than they look. A football calendar has to work the same way wherever its players are, across time zones and changes of season. Since then, every date in the game is handled in one consistent way before it is used.

What it feels like today
When you create a save now, the first part of the world is ready in about fifteen seconds and your dashboard opens; the remaining leagues, cups and fixtures finish in the background. How that background job became crash-proof is its own story, later in the diary.
