In a management game where you move time forward a few days at a time, you do not watch most things happen. You come back and find out. The inbox is where you find out: the match result, the injury, the bid for your best player, the board losing patience. If the inbox is vague or inconsistent, the whole world feels vague.
In early May the inbox was the least consistent part of ManageFC. Different systems wrote their own messages in their own style, some in English, some in Portuguese, some with a button to act on them and some without. On 9 May we finished rebuilding it.
One library, one voice
The core of the rebuild is simple. Instead of every part of the game writing its own messages, all messages now come from a shared library of carefully written templates. Each one has a clear subject, a body that fills in the details — the player, the club, the amount — and, where it makes sense, a button that takes you straight to where you need to act: "View Board", "Open Transfers".
The rule we set is strict: every relevant event in your world must reach you through the inbox, and every message must come from that library.
Why templates matter to you
It sounds like an engineering detail. It changes how the game feels:
- Consistency. A board warning always looks like a board warning, whichever system raised it.
- An action for every message. Board confidence messages, for example, all gained a "View Board" button. We went back and repaired 160 older messages that had been sent without one.
- Variety without chaos. A template can have several phrasings, so the press asking about your form does not use the same sentence every week.
- Under control. Because every message of the same kind is recognisable, the game can keep track of how many you receive — which is how we make sure it never floods you with urgent messages.

Not a notification machine
It would have been easy to turn a better inbox into a louder one. We went the other way. Urgent messages are capped at three a day, on purpose, and vacation mode stops the game generating pressure aimed at you while you are away. The inbox is written by the game itself, so support requests go to our email or Discord, where a person reads them.
The inbox has two tabs today. Notifications is the main stream, shaped by nine filters (all, unread, match, transfer, finance, training, injury, board and cup), each with a live count. Crises holds the rarer events that ask you to choose between options. Every message carries a priority — normal, important or urgent — and the fourth message in any rolling 24 hours that would have been urgent arrives downgraded to important instead. A chaotic day can hand you three red alerts, never a wall of them.
What came next
With the inbox speaking one language, the next thing to fix was what actually happens on the pitch while you are not watching: substitution plans, set-piece takers and a proper Christmas break.
