ManageFC has been online since March 2026. For most of that time, the only place its story lived was in our own notes: long lists of what broke, what we measured, what we changed and why. This blog is where that story becomes public.
We are a small independent project based in Portugal, building a single-player football management game that runs in the browser. You found a club, set up the team, and decide how fast time passes. Nothing happens while you are away. That idea shapes almost every decision you will read about here.
What you will find here
The blog has five sections, and each one answers a different question.
- Dev Diary — how the game got to where it is, month by month. What we built, what we threw away, and the numbers behind each decision.
- Under the Hood — how the simulation actually works: the match engine, the time-skip "tick", the weekly finance pulse, the formation and tactics maths.
- Design Notes — why the game works the way it does. Why there is no battle pass, why your world waits for you, why there are no real club names.
- Guides — practical advice for running a club, written from the same numbers the engine uses.
- Updates — what changed recently in the open beta.
About the development diary
The first entries of the Dev Diary were written in September 2026, looking back. We did not keep a public blog while we were building the first versions, but we did keep detailed records: dates, measurements, the bugs we found and how we fixed them. Each diary entry is based on those records and says clearly which period it covers — you will see a small "Covers March 2026" label on each one.
If you want the whole story in order, the development timeline places every diary entry on the month it describes.
Joining the conversation
Every post can be shared by anyone. Liking and commenting is reserved for ManageFC managers — players who have founded a club — and your club's crest from the badge designer appears next to your name when you comment. That keeps the discussion between people who actually play, and it keeps spam out.
Where to start
If you are new to ManageFC, three posts are a good way in:
- Why we're building ManageFC — the idea, and the one rule we try not to break.
- How a match is simulated — what happens between kick-off and the final whistle.
- Your first season in division 3 — a practical plan for the first 245 days.
And if you would rather play than read, the game is free: create your club and start in division 10 of any of 211 countries.
